Welcome to my Governor Page.
For the last 2-3 years I have baan a governor at Caversham Nursery. Governors are unpaid volunteers who work as part of a team with the teachers to raise standards of achievement in their school.
Caversham Nursery is a very well run nursery and it is a pleasure to support the staff in their work. The nursery have achieved The Kitemark award which is awarded to schools achieving excellence in early education.
Having a son with delayed speech and socail skills I appreciate that the first years of education are very
important. It my son had not had the right start at nursery he would have had very little chance of
catching up at his primary school.
It is also important that the parents are involved in their childs pre-school
education. Familairise yourself with the Foundation Stage curriculum
for children aged 3 to 5 years as all children have a Foundation Stage Profile that their nursery/school
complete in the achedemic year that the child is going to be 5. The profile records your child's progess
in the 6 curriculum areas. You, as the parent, should have a meeting with the teacher at the beginning of
the first term and one at the end of the last term. You also have the right to look at this profile
anytime during that year.
I have found that I have learnt alot from being a Governor and have a much greater apreciation of what my Nursery School teachers do.
